On Tuesday, June 28, over a thousand grocery workers joined by community, labor, and clergy rallied at all three Vons, Albertsons, and Ralphs’ corporate headquarters to demand health care not welfare.
Chelsea Davenport, a 22-year old Vons worker in Hermosa Beach, spoke to the croutside the Vons Headquarters in Arcadia on behalf of 62,000 Southern California grocery workers. Davenport suffers with a serious medical condition and told the crowd that the companies' proposal could cost "as far as $10,000 extra per person extra in premiums. That could set me back financially for years and years."
Grocery workers are calling for a fair and responsible contract instead of burdening taxpayers with the cost of health care.
