On Wednesday, August 17, Civil Rights Leader Reverend Jesse Jackson lent his powerful voice and elevated the issues of 62,000 SoCal grocery workers. Rev. Jackson led a delegation of local clergy and supporters to meet with managers at the Ralphs store on Crenshaw.
The delegation met with management for several minutes in an office in the back. Rev. Jackson told the Ralphs managers, the grocery workers, and the media, "We need healthcare, not welfare." For more on today's delegation, see clips in L.A. Labor in the News below.
Grocery workers gave a deadline to Ralphs, Albertsons and Vons for a final offer and will vote on a strike authorization this Friday and Saturday. Stay tuned.
