KP Workers Push for Fair Contract While Management Stalls

National Bargaining Update

Local Bargaining

This week we brought our local Kern, CLS, and Pharmacy tables to national bargaining in an effort to make progress on resolving the remaining issues. We met for four days this week and unfortunately, little to no progress has been made.

  • At the Kern table, the bargaining committee from Kern made the trek to LA and then waited six hours into scheduled bargaining to get a completely inadequate response from management. The union committee responded quickly on Wednesday evening with a fair proposal that recognizes our commitment to Kaiser and our longevity. We stood ready to continue negotiations all day Thursday, but management brought nothing on the second day. If their team does not have the authority to bargain, they need to bring in those who do. We cannot bargain this contract alone. It takes two willing partners.

  • At the CLS table, management has wasted the majority of the days stating that they are gathering data and working on solutions but we have not seen the product of that yet.

  • At the pharmacy table, while we reached a tentative agreement on language that enhances the grievance and arbitration procedure, we were not pleased to hear about management's continued interest in bringing in agency workers after we had previously conveyed that this proposal goes against our core principles.

Across all three tables, we have pressed management in interest-based discussions about the urgent need for economic upgrades like longevity pay. Our dedication to Kaiser Permanente deserves recognition and a fair contract. Investment in us is essential to retaining a strong workforce.

In the coming weeks we will return to the local tables to continue the fight for a fair contract. The CLS table will meet again on September 17 and 19, and the Pharmacy table on September 25. No new sessions have been scheduled for Kern while we await a management response to the union proposal we gave them Wednesday evening at 6:30pm. We will keep you updated as that changes.

Take Action

  • Complete the unity petition to show Kaiser you are ready to do whatever it takes to win the strong contract we deserve.

  • DO NOT participate in Kaiser Permanente's People Pulse survey. This action is a direct response to stalled progress at the bargaining table and Kaiser's unwillingness to fully recognize the value of healthcare professionals. No Progress, No Pulse!
