A Month of Waiting, and KP Comes Back With Insults
Your union negotiating committee met with KP on August 19 to discuss both the Main and Admin/Clerical CBAs. Management also used today’s session to ask nit-picking questions about proposals we had already passed. This despite the fact that KP management claimed an (arbitrary) deadline of September 8 to conclude local bargaining. KP waited until the end of the day to provide their first response to our union package proposal which we handed over almost a month ago on July 24, 2025. Their proposal included moving evening and night shift night differentials to a later time of the night when most workers would not benefit from them. This is insulting and unacceptable.
Actions we are taking
Our Kaiser Kern Contract Action Team (CAT) met last Friday (8/15) to establish our economic priorities, and to discuss our strategy to win. On Monday (8/18), a delegation of leaders from KP Kern traveled to Los Angeles and presented our priorities to the Alliance’s Labor Caucus. Marci Correa made it clear: our Kern County wages are dragging down standards across KP, and raising them must be a top priority for the entire Alliance.
We are scheduled to meet with KP again on August 28 to resume negotiations and hopefully conclude our fight for a fair contract.
