UFCW International has reached a proposed settlement with Kaiser Permanente
Update | March 11, 2026
We’re reviewing the details with our bargaining committees and will keep you posted on next steps
After months of negotiating, countless Solidarity Tuesdays, delivering petitions to management, speaking out on social media, and an impactful three-day strike, UFCW International has reached a proposed settlement with Kaiser Permanente on a new four-year contract. This proposed agreement delivers across-the-board increases, contract alignment across UFCW, a fair PSP, wage equity for Kern, and additional funding for Ben Hudnall.
We are in the process of reviewing details with our bargaining committees. We will update you on Friday with the bargaining committees’ recommendations and details about upcoming meetings for you to review the proposal and get answers to your questions.
What’s Included in the Proposed UFCW Agreement:
The agreement includes 21.5% in wage increases over four years, with the majority of increases coming early in the agreement:
○ 6.5% in March 2026
○ 6.5% in October 2026
○ 3% in August 2027
○ 2.5% in October 2027
○ 3% in October 2028
The agreement also includes additional wage grid and market adjustments across classifications.
Finally, we were able to achieve contract alignment and a common expiration date across all UFCW Locals, strengthening our ability to move forward together in future negotiations.
What We Protected
The agreement also preserves important benefits members rely on, including pensions and
employer contributions, the partnership agreement, and additional funding for the Ben Hudnall Trust Fund.
Additionally, we previously reached tentative agreements at our Local Pharmacy, CLS/MLT, and Kern tables that contain important gains:
Southern California Local CLS/MLT TA
In late September, we reached a tentative agreement on our KP CLS/MLT contract. We secured contract upgrades, including increased longevity pay at each step and additional paid time for educational programs for benefited members.
Southern California Local Pharmacy TA
In early October, we reached a tentative agreement for KP pharmacy employees, addressing schedule rotations, on-call, and registry workers. We also secured language clarifying the rotation process and won longevity increases and additional differential pay for hours worked in the ambulatory oncology setting.
Kern Admin Local TA
In mid-October, UFCW 770 members working under the Kaiser - Kern County Administrative and Clerical contract reached a tentative agreement for a strong contract that includes improved longevity premiums paid at 10, 15, 20, and 25 years of service, improved paid bereavement leave, and language recommitting Kaiser to resolving grievances at the lowest level possible. We also added MLK day to holidays, and eliminated all gender specific references to members.
Kern Main Local TA
In mid-December, UFCW 770 members working under the Kaiser Permanente Kern County Main Local contract reached a tentative agreement that secured contract upgrades, including improved longevity premiums paid at 10, 15, 20, and 25 years of service, and strengthened bereavement leave allowing members to use other paid time for up to five paid days.
