UFCW LOCAL 770 CALLS FOR BETTER SUPPORT AFTER WORKPLACE TRAGEDIES

News | July 13, 2026

"Our hearts are with the family who lost a loved one at the Vons in Granada Hills, and with the grocery workers who did everything they could to try to save that customer's life.

No worker should be expected to witness a traumatic loss, and then return to work as if nothing happened. No family should be forced to grieve in the aisles around active shoppers. Customers and grocery workers deserve compassion, respect, and support in the moments that matter most.

We appreciate Albertsons offering employee assistance services in the days after the incident, but we're calling on the company to conduct a thorough review of what happened and to develop clear, compassionate protocols for responding to traumatic incidents so workers and customers are treated with the care and dignity they deserve.

Our customers and members shouldn't have to wait and wonder what happens after a tragedy."

-Kathy Finn, President UFCW Local 770
